Field IMPACT Data Deletion
1. Who can ask
- A ranger or team member – for data about themselves, for example a problem report or voice message they sent, or the data of a phone they carried.
- A team or station – for a team account and everything recorded under it.
- The Cardamom Forest Protection Program – for any team, or for all of its data.
Team accounts are created by the administrator, not in the app, so they are also deleted by the administrator on request.
2. What to write
- Your name, your team or unit name, and your station.
- The phone's ID, if you have the phone: open the GPS recorder screen (tap the notification "Field IMPACT is recording the track", or press and hold the Field IMPACT icon and choose "GPS recorder") – the ID is shown in large letters, with a Send button.
- What should be deleted: the whole account and everything recorded under it, or only part of it (for example problem reports and voice messages, photo previews, or the data of certain days).
Before anything is deleted, the administrator checks the request with [WHO CONFIRMS A REQUEST, e.g. the station chief], so that nobody can delete another team's records.
3. What is deleted on the server
| Data | Whole-account request |
|---|---|
| The team account, its approved phone and recorder ID | Deleted. The phone is no longer accepted by the server. |
| Location points and tracks recorded under the account (the recorder's and the navigator's) | Deleted |
| Phone events (location switched off, airplane mode, battery and similar) | Deleted |
| Photo previews (miniatures) and their positions | Deleted |
| Problem reports: text, voice messages, the position and phone details sent with them | Deleted |
| Sign-in log entries, page and export log entries, with their IP addresses and positions | Deleted |
| Refused attempts of the account's recorder ID, with IP addresses | Deleted |
| Notices sent to the unit | Deleted |
| The server's technical request log (it holds IP addresses and, for notice checks, the recorder ID) | This log cannot be edited line by line; it is deleted by age, after a period that is currently not set – today no size or age limit is configured, so it is kept without a time limit; a limit is being set. |
| Copies made on the server before changes, and server backups | Deleted within a period that is currently not set – today such copies are not deleted automatically; a retention period is being set |
Copies already sent to the administrator's Telegram chat (only if Telegram notices were switched on) are deleted by the administrator from that chat.
4. What may be kept
- [CONFIRM: Records needed as evidence in a legal case, for as long as that case requires. You will be told which records are kept and why.]
- [CONFIRM: Totals without names or positions, for example the number of patrol hours of a month.]
5. Data on the phone
The phone holds its own data: points and events still waiting to be sent, the last 300 events already sent, the phone's ID, the sign-in, navigator tracks and problem reports (including voice messages) not yet sent, and a copy of every patrol photo taken with the navigator's camera, with its position. The app does not delete those photo copies by itself.
You can remove all of it yourself: uninstall Field IMPACT, or open the phone's Settings → Apps → Field IMPACT → Storage → Clear storage. This does not delete what has already reached the server – for that, send a request as above.
Photos saved to the phone's gallery (folder Pictures/FieldIMPACT) are ordinary photos on the phone: delete them in the gallery.
Managed service phones (website version of the app only). On a phone the organisation has set up as a managed service phone, uninstalling the app is blocked, and "Force stop" and "Clear storage" are blocked for every app on that phone. Ask the Cardamom Forest Protection Program to remove the protection or the app. The Google Play version has no such protection.
6. EarthRanger records
Field IMPACT does not keep or control the organisation's EarthRanger records and sends nothing to EarthRanger. To ask about data in EarthRanger, contact the Cardamom Forest Protection Program, which runs it.
